In 2007 pre-existing median home prices in McKinney ranged between $131,500 in east McKinney and $179,000 in west McKinney, according to the Collin County Association of Realtors. Today, the median home price ranges from $269,000 to $293,000, and most new construction start around $300,000.
The average McKinney household income has not kept pace with the housing market having increased just over 9 percent since 2007, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
Bob Templeton, MISD’s demographer, told MISD officials that the district could lose younger families to districts such as Anna or Melissa, where home prices are a little less expensive.
