What is the trend in the construction of new kitchens, such as countertop material type, cabinet type, appliances and colors themes? To find out the NAHB Eye on Housing analyzed the 2016 Builder Practices Survey conducted by Home Innovation Research Labs, and, a survey conducted by Houzz, an online platform dedicated to home remodeling and design.
Granite countertops were by far the most popular countertop choice with 64 percent of new homes having this material type. Three color choices stood out: 30% had multi-colored countertops, 26% had white, and 18% had black.
Wood-based were the most common cabinets, with 60% having raised panel wood cabinets and 25% having flat panel wood cabinets. The most popular color was white, followed by wood – medium tone.
As far as appliances, 97% of new homes provide cooktops and ranges. Other features that are also commonly installed include dishwashers, microwave ovens, garbage disposals, refrigerators and freezers.
